Orangetheory Fitness is a trendsetting franchise fitness organization with hundreds of locations open in the US, Canada and UK and with more than 500 new fitness studios under development across the nation and internationally.
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Product Development Engineer will interface across the entire Orangetheory network and will be instrumental in conception and design of wearable heart rate monitors and brand features. The individual should be able to use discretionary judgment in dealing with key OTbeat related hardware decisions, be self-motivated, creative and proactive, to work successfully in a fast-paced environment including multiple platforms and architectures, diverse technologies and environments. They will be instrumental in working with developers, project managers, network engineers and other stakeholders to create a product design that fulfills and meets Orangetheory’s strategic goals while integrating the needs of all day users.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Lead, participate and support the following product development endeavors:
- Concept, planning, design and execution stages of new products
- Risk assessment
- Testing concept designs and initial engineering builds
- Design Review and verification testing
- Pre-Production validation testing
- Lead our wearables manufacture and product development
- Interact with international and domestic resources to develop a design for manufacturability, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
- High aptitude in problem solving and customer service excellence
- Write performance specifications for products to facilitate clear direction for new product development requirements.
- Review product documentation and validation for accuracy and intended customer use.
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to monitor project progress, manage critical path activities, and to ensure adherence to project milestones and timelines
- Ensure all project documentation and the design history files are in order per design control process.
- Research materials, products, technologies, test methods, and assembly/fabrication processes to improve existing product design.

- May be required to work early morning, evening or even weekend shifts
- May be required to work in a mobile capacity
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- BS/MS degree in an Engineering discipline or related
- Understanding of manufacturing and quality principles required
- Strong in MS Office and Statistical Analysis Software
- Comfortable in a fitness /gym environment working closely with members primarily women.
- Effective communication, multi-tasking and teamwork skills for collaborating, presenting and reporting.
- Able to work flexible hours to effectively work with multiple projects under time pressure.
- Ability to work effectively with multiple departments and at all levels of seniority.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not directly manage employees at this time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates primarily in a studio environment overseeing classes and secondarily in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
